How to use it

FAQ

What are the photo requirements for the DS-160?›

A square 600x600 pixel JPEG, at most 240 KB, 24-bit color, head 50-69% of the frame, eyes between 56% and 69% of the height from the bottom, plain white background. The tool outputs exactly this file.

Is the DS-160 photo the same as the passport photo?›

The template is the same 2x2 in composition. The difference is the delivery: the online form needs the 600x600 digital file, a paper application needs a printed 2x2 photo. This page produces the digital file.

Can I check my photo before submitting the form?›

Yes. After processing, the tool shows exactly which checks pass and which do not: head size, eye line, background and file weight. You only download a file that fits.

Can I wear glasses?›

No. Glasses are not allowed in US visa photos, except for documented medical reasons.

Do I need a white background?›

Plain white or off-white. The tool replaces your background automatically, so any even wall at home works.
